About the Abbey
St. Michael’s Abbey in Orange County, California was founded in 1961 by seven Hungarian priests who fled communist oppression. Today, there are 40 seminarians studying for the priesthood and 50 Catholic priests serving the community and parishes throughout the dioceses of Orange, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Bernardino and Fresno, California.
The priests of the canonry operate parishes and teach in schools. They provide chaplains to colleges and communities of religious women. Some of the confreres write books and articles, while others have ministries through internet and radio. They celebrate the sacraments and teach religious education in prisons, youth facilities, hospitals, and nursing homes. The abbey is the site of numerous retreats and Bible studies, as well as a summer camp run by the seminarians.
