Cerro Villa History
A time capsule was buried in 1966 to commemorate the end of the first school year. Items found in the capsule in 1985 (opened one year early in conjunction with the 20th anniversary) include:
- A 45 r.p.m. of the Beatles’ “I Want to Hold Your Hand”.
- A pair of rectangular, wire-framed “granny” eyeglasses as worn by the Byrds lead singer.
- A letter containing comments and a few predictions from Cerro Villa’s principal at the time, C. B. (Corky) Courson. A few thoughts were:
- Short hair and bobby socks would be back in style (they were)
- Mars would be the garden spot of the solar system
- We would all have robots in our homes to handle menial tasks

The first principal, Corky Courson, was also the father of Pamela Courson. Pamela was the girlfriend of Jim Morrison and was played by Meg Ryan in the movie “The Doors”. Jim dedicated much of his music to Pamela, Love Street and Roadhouse Blues to name a few, and Neil Young has said Pamela was his inspiration for Cinnamon Girl. Pamela Courson went to Orange High School and died at the age of 27. She is buried at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana with a plaque surrounded by brick that reads Pamela Susan Morrison, 1946 – 1974.
