Friends of the Villa Park Library (FOVPL) is a 501(C) 3 corporation that supports the Villa Park library through donations, volunteer work, public awareness and appreciation for the Villa Park Library and the resources and programs it provides to our community.
FOVPL raises money through donations and fundraiser programs such as the sale of safe and sane fireworks in the Villa Park town center each year. In the past, FOVPL had a 10k/5k run each year that raised funds.
Donations support the summer reading program, monthly activities for adults, school-aged children and families with young children.
The Little Red Library Boxes that can be found throughout the City of Villa Park were also possible through donations.
Friends of Villa Park (FOVP) was founded in 1995 when the library was threatened with closures due to the Orange County bankruptcy.

What is Friends of the Library?
The Friends of the Libraries are volunteers who are interested in promoting the library to the community, enriching resources, providing legislative support and sponsoring cultural programs. Funds raised by the Friends support children’s programs among other projects
Support from the Friends groups may be financial, political and cultural. Groups are separate from the libraries they support and made up of volunteers. Generally, groups are structured, handle finances and work closely with library management. In the U.S., Friends groups also work closely with the American Library Association (ALA). Other countries, such as Australia, France, South Africa and the United Kingdom all have Friends of Libraries groups.
National Friends of Libraries Week
Friends of Libraries groups even have their very own national week of celebration. United for Libraries coordinates National Friends of Libraries Week every October . The celebration offers a two-fold opportunity to celebrate Friends. Friends groups are encourage to use the time to creatively promote their groups in the community, to raise awareness, and to promote membership. This is also an excellent opportunity for their library and Board of Trustees to recognize the Friends for their help and support of the library.
