The Villa Park Great American Family Picnic is typically an annual event held every Memorial Day weekend (Sunday). However this Memorial Day weekend 2018 there will be no picnic due to a lack of funds and community participation. Instead, the Villa Park Community Services Foundation, the organization that hosts the event, will focus on other community events such as the 4th of July Parade, HalloweenFest and the Dry Land Boat Parade. Additional activities are also anticipated during the holiday season.
Villa Park Picnic History
The Villa Park community picnic dates back to at least 1881 when the community would travel by wagon to Irvine park. The tradition of having the picnic at Irvine Lake continued until 2015 prior to the permanent closing of Irvine Lake in 2016. The VP Family and Friends Community Picnic was then moved to Villa Park High school.
