What Is Chanukah?
Hanukkah (also spelled Chanukah) is an eight-day Jewish holiday. It is most commonly known as the Festival of Lights. The holiday marks the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem more than 2,000 years ago.
Jewish tradition tells us that a small amount of oil that should have lasted only one day burned for eight days. This is celebrated by lighting a menorah, also known as a hanukkiah, for the eight nites of Chanukah.
Chanukah in Villa Park
Cultural celebrations are being added more and more to the mix of community events in Villa Park. Add the Chanukah Celebration to the city’s calendar of long-running Villa Park traditions that include Halloween Fest, the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, Santa Tour and Dry Land Boat Parade, and the Lunar New Year and Diwali celebrations, among others.
The Villa Park Chanukah Celebration is another opportunity for neighbors to gather and learn about the traditions celebrated by families in the community.
